Title: The Cat's Paw, for ghot

From: Your Secret Snupin Santa

Summary: Remus learns his pet is even more special than he imagined.

Rated: Coal and Switches (NC17)

Notes: Based on the following prompt: "Snape is an animagus and he survived Nagini's bite transforming into a cat. The problem is that the blood loss and/or leaked memories when he was so wounded complicated the transformation and now Snape's mind is locked away somewhere inside a cat's simpler mind. Cat!Snape starts living at Hogwarts and is taken care of by Teddy and his daddy Remus (who also survived somehow). He slowly starts to recover his mind. Cat!Snape socializing with other animals as well as he did with people, no previous Snupin relationship and no Tonks, please!"

I have 2700 words, that with a bit of rearranging, I could viably post as my JBBS story. I think it's time to have dinner and watch the Sarah Jane Adventures for a little while.

If I get more done tomorrow, that's great, but if not, I still have a viable story! wee!

BTW, anyone available for beta-ig tomorrow night? It's DC Comics canon, and

I kept meaning to make an LJ entry today, and then things kept happening in my brain, you don't even want to know. So instead, you get a list!

1. While my knee is healing rapidly (I'm a good healer, to make up for tripping on NOTHING, ALL THE TIME) I've had to shorten my gait, so it takes me like, five minutes longer to get EVERYWHERE. This is improving my balance however.

2. The slow-walking thing is why I'm glad that the mailman came to see me today and took the last of my Christmas mailings, because omg I did not want to walk to the post office.

3. Which in turn means I can get a cab home. Ooooooh. And clean the kitchen in preparation for The Arrival Of My Family.

3a. Five bucks says that the first thing Emmy says to me when she sees the collage I made of images you guys sent me is, "Why is there a naked man with a frying pan in the corner?"

I'm going to just have to tell her "Art is its own explanation" or something equally ridiculous because I often ask myself the same question, and have yet to find an answer beyond "It was there."

At least, it was up to my knee, and the tape measure tells me that's 18". Fortunately, it was light and fluffy. As it is, I'm sore all over from shoveling.

Some kids who live in the same building as my work helped me clear off my car this morning. They didn't ask for anything in return, so I swung by Dunkin Donuts for hot chocolate and donuts, which I gave to their mother for them. (Thank goodness Dunkin takes plastic.)

When I got home, the plow had done a straight line through our parking lot but hadn't touched the parking spots. The plow hadn't even been there when Patsfan got home from work, so he'd shoveled a spot for each of us on the street and put a barrel in mine. Er, nice thought, but a) the barrel thing is all Boston, nobody cares if you do that here, they'll just move it if they need the spot and b) it was still snowing and blowing, so the spot filled right back up anyway, meaning his effort was totally wasted. Also, there is a parking ban, and at some point, his car was going to get ticketed and/or towed. So I settled in to shovel our spots in the lot/driveway/whatever you want to call it. Was about half done when the people the landlord pays to dig out the stairs and walkways showed up and used the snowblower on the rest of it, thank goodness. Can't imagine the shape I'd be in if I'd done it all.

Skelaxin is currently my bestest buddy ever. And while I was always planning to hit Curves tomorrow, I think I'll probably only do the stretching circuit. Muscles definitely need recovering time.

Some time around 9 this morning, Priest Dude rescheduled Winter Festival and Dendraia for next Sunday. Via Facebook. We've finally dragged him into the 21st century! LOL

Never did finish the cards last night. Should probably work on them a bit now, as the first batch got mailed Saturday morning. Have more classic Who to watch. Got a bit more than halfway through The War Machines, which at first I thought was going to be the introduction to the Cybermen. Not. But some of the concepts and devices seem to have been laying the groundwork for them, and the next disc in my queue is definitely Cybermen. Tomb of the Cybermen actually. It's very weird, though, as I've reached the point where there are all these forever lost eps due to a fire, and probably others that either just never got put on DVD or else Netflix doesn't carry them in a manner I can locate, so suddenly there's this new companion (Dodo? Really? This is what they named her?) and references to events that I have no idea of. Hmmm. And I just caught a snippet of a dream I must've had today, because I'm reasonably sure Barbara and Ian did not actually suddenly show up in this arc, and why the hell would I dream they did?

Tonight's third shift person called out at 5am. At 4:30pm, I got called because the person they'd found to cover it got frozen in at her other job, and would I come do it? I'm very proud of myself for actually saying NO! The fact that I'd just woken up and felt stiff as a board probably helped my resolve. Just saw (via Facebook) that tonight's 2nd shifter is now pulling a double. Feel vaguely guilty, but then again, no I don't. I'm still sore, also a bit sniffly, and it wouldn't actually have any impact on my paycheck if I did take it. It'd just mean less pool time being used for taking Friday and Saturday nights off. It's never quite worth picking up extra shifts on a week where you've requested days off. Or, for that matter, when there's a holiday. Because pool time and holiday pay can't put you over your scheduled hours for the week, so if you help out by picking up a shift, you can actually end up losing your paid holiday altogether. Stupid.

Babblebabble.

Going to pop War Machines in and see about getting the rest of these cards done. If I don't just fall back to sleep, which feels like a very real possibili...zzzzzzzz...

since the Metro is closed at all above-ground stations do to ice.

Fortunately, I've got enough hours of leave to miss one day -- but I really need to get groceries (the farmer's market consisted of ONE vendor today -- Smith Meadows, which sells pasta, meat and eggs, not fruit or vegetables), and the easiest one to get to Giant across from Silver Spring Metro. I *might* be able to hike to the co-op but it's going to be a trip across residential sidewalks and packed snow/ice, which is never fun. :P

So, my parents and sister are driving cross-country to Chicago for the next two days, in order to bring me the stuff I left in storage with them when I moved here. They're also bringing me The Best Chair Ever, which my mother acquired sometime in the 70's. It has bright-orange nubbly upholstery, and is almost unbearably comfortable. I am very excited to own a hideous comfortable chair.

What I had not anticipated is that my parents would not pack things with which to entertain each other while they are on the road (I have no doubt Emmy is glued to her headphones and hopefully struggling through the last of The Great Gatsby for school). As the dog -- who they're bringing along, apparently in a padded box mounted on the dashboard -- is asleep, mum's primary source of entertainment is texting me.

I love them. I just have to remind myself sometimes.

Title: For One More Chance, for arionrhod

From: Your Secret Snupin Santa

Summary: He didn't tell anyone where he was going that day, nor did he tell them what he was planning to summon. At best, they'd have called him mad; at worse they'd have locked him up for dabbling in such ancient, restricted arts. Not that he really cared. Remus was on a mission, and he'd do anything to get to Severus. Even risk his soul in a seemingly impossible wager with Death.

Rated: Holiday Spice (R)

Notes: Warnings: None, really... Sexual situations, some language Prompts: I combined two, with some slight modifications:
1. Fic - Remus survives because only silver can truly kill a werewolf, although regeneration takes several days. When he comes "back to life" he finds out Tonks and Severus are both dead, and that Severus wasn't a traitor after all. Having only married Tonks because he was grieving over Albus and Severus, whom he had loved secretly for years, Remus makes a daring decision - to use a Dark Magic he'd heard about during his years of wandering to pass into the afterlife and bring Severus back. The only problem is that he has a mere twenty four hours to convince Severus to return, or else they will both be trapped in limbo forever! Angst fine, but happy ending a must!
2. Fic - Remus has no memory of who or what he is; finding himself wandering alone in a cold, dark place, he stumbles upon a small house where a man lives alone. The stranger takes him in, albeit reluctantly, and as Remus is nursed back to health he finds that he develops feelings for his rescuer. Little does he know that this is no stranger, but Severus Snape, a man scorned and hated for his crimes. The amount they may have known each other before is up to the author, but I'd like to see a reluctant, possibly damaged Severus being slowly won over by Remus. Whether Remus regains his memories is up to you, but a happy ending, please!

INTENSE LOW PRESSURE TRACKING SOUTHEAST OF LONG ISLAND OVERNIGHT WILL RESULT IN A PERIOD OF HEAVY SNOW AND GUSTY WINDS ACROSS THE AREA. SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF 10 TO 18 INCHES...WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS AS HIGH AS 24 INCHES...ARE EXPECTED. HIGHEST ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED OVER NEW YORK CITY AND COASTAL CONNECTICUT...WITH LOWER AMOUNTS NORTH AND WEST OF THE CITY. SNOWFALL RATES OF 2 TO 4 INCHES PER HOUR...ACCOMPANIED BY THUNDER AND LIGHTNING...ARE POSSIBLE DURING THE HEIGHT OF THE STORM INTO THE OVERNIGHT. GUSTY WINDS ARE ALSO EXPECTED... WHICH ALONG WITH THE HEAVY SNOW WILL REDUCE VISIBILITIES TO UNDER A QUARTER MILE AT TIMES...AND CAUSE SOME BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF SNOW.

Under a quarter mile at times? Seriously? How about ten inches past the end of my hood for most of the 8 mile drive in? *eyeroll*

And ooh, thundersnow. Can't wait for that.

Ah well. With any luck, the roads will be mostly plowed by the time I get out of here at 10am. Meanwhile, I've got the second half of our Christmas cards to write, some classic Doctor Who to watch while doing it, and an otherwise nice and quiet office. *knocks wood*

Meanwhile, second shift person was much more personable than usual, most likely because I got in even before 11 to get her out of here. She's only been here about a month and has been almost systematically alienating everybody here. Considering I only see her at change of shift Saturday nights, it's rather impressive that she's managed to include me in that. That said, I suggested that if a similar situation arises in the future, she just freaking call me earlier. I don't mind getting someone out of here early for a storm. On the other hand, I pointed out that if I'm not the one relieving her, she'd best be prepared to potentially get frozen in for a double. Gods know I have several times back when I was the four to midnight person.

I've been wrangling this post over and over in my head for about a month now, perhaps a little longer, and it's still just plain messy, so I'm going to plow through and see what I can make of it.

At the start of November, a friend of mine died. Her husband's wishes are that there be no memorial post, so I'm not going to talk about who; if you knew her, you've heard by now, and if you don't know who, then you needn't worry.

K and I met via the Whofandom earlier this year, while I was working on Nameless, and we shared an interest in digital publishing and its effect on the wider world. Not to make this all about me -- though grieving usually is about the survivors -- but she was instrumental in opening my eyes to some things about writing, and my writing in particular, that I hadn't considered.

She sent me an essay on Nameless that she'd been working on, examining the use of geography and space in the novel. It was a brilliant piece of work standalone, but it brought home to me the fact that this story wasn't just being read by the Cafe or talked about it amongst people I knew. It was out there, in the world, and people were reading it and forming opinions that had nothing to do with what I thought or felt. People were analyzing what I did and finding things in the writing I hadn't consciously put there, but which were there anyway -- the same way I did in school with books I read and plays I worked on. To be the subject of that focus is at once thrilling and frightening, but endlessly educational.

She made me feel -- as the VOYA review and many people have done since, but with her, it was the first time -- like a Real Published Writer.

I've since learned through a mutual friend (to whom I am indebted for maintaining communication when K's eyesight failed her, and sharing in the mourning) that she had a wide array of literary interests and that I was in extremely respectable company under her eye. I'm glad to have known her and the thoughts she had on my work. She had notes on The Dead Isle too, which I expect to have in due time, when the sorting and sifting and other work is done. I'm very much looking forward to hearing what she said about it.

Um, there's no real point to this post, really, except to say that K did this thing for me, and was a friend. I want to put out there in the world that I miss her, I wish I'd known her better, and I wish I'd known her longer. Grief is natural and fades, and I'm okay; but I wanted to say it, so that it's there.

So, I'm slightly weirded out that, six hours after the Snowpocalypse was expected to start a.) there's not a flake to be seen and b.) the projected snowfall totals just keep going up. So, um, apparently it hasn't changed track, just slowed down to dump even more on every place it passes.

Lovely.

Bright side? If I can get back to sleep, I can probably get up at 10 instead of 8:30 for work, as there isn't likely to be as much to shovel then. However, the odds of getting frozen in at the end of my shift just skyrocketed. Fortunately, the person due in at noon is walking distance from the office, and we've already worked out that if my 8am relief person calls out, the noon person will come in at 10. She originally offered to come in for 8, but she's had an even more draining semester than me, so I suggested we split the difference, both working 10hr shifts and neither working for 12.

The odds of making it to HTAZP just dropped through the floor also. *sigh* Ah well. I've been singularly un-devout over the past few weeks, so doing something on my own isn't the worst idea ever, though I was really looking forward to seeing folks.
